In 2019, the Autumn Equinox, or the first fall day, takes place on September 23rd. On the Wiccan Wheel of the Year this festival, (also known as Mabon) is a traditional time for spells and rituals to celebrate organization, planning for the future, and rest after labor. The hours of light and darkness are equal, just as they are at the Spring Equinox, so rituals for balance are also appropriate.
In the past, the harvest season was a period of hard labor for many. After the fields were harvested, preparations were made for the long, cold winter ahead. Today, Wiccans use the Autumn Equinox festival to examine their progress to date and adjust their plans for the future.
